This song was originally inspired from a textbook I had in seminary titled, "The Knowledge of the Holy" by A.W. Tozer.  I learned that when we approach God we first need to recognize that He is beyond our comprehension.  This is essential to our relationship with Him.  We tend to think of God in ways that reflect our life experiences, and we only know Him through those lenses.  That leads to a misunderstanding of what He is like, and what He is telling us in Scripture.

This is meant to be a worship song.  A song that begins the journey into the Holy of Holies in corporate worship.   It reminds us that we are worshiping our creator, and we are the creation.  If we want to know more about Him, we must turn to what He has done to reveal Himself in creation and in His Word.  We can find certain attributes about Him such as the Holy Trinity, self-existence, self-sufficiency, eternity, infinititude, immutability, onmiscience, wisdom, omnipotence, transcendence, omnipresence, faithfulness, goodness, justice, mercy, grace, love, holiness, and sovereignty.  We still can't fully describe Him.

Though we may not understand or comprehend God, we know enough to know He exists, that He created the world, and we were created to worship Him with our lives.
